PRODUCTION AND OPERATING UNITS

Allied Timbers Zimbabwe focus primarily on the management of forests and operation of sawmills with the aim of providing quality timber for both the local and international market.

North of Mutare, ATZ manages 400 hectares and 2000 hectares of plantations in Stapleford Forest and Maswera Forest respectively. The two plantations supply Stapleford sawmill with its annual requirements of pine saw logs. In another direction, 80km from Mutare, there is Erin, a sawmill that is fed more than 50 000 cubic meters of pine saw logs annually from Erin pine plantation Forest.

In the South ATZ has a strategic unit comprising of Gwendingwe sawmill which is 150km from Mutare. It produces quality sawn timber for the construction industry, pallet manufacturing, crating and furniture.

Again in the south there is Chimanimani forests consisting of three estates, namely Tarka, Chisengu and Martin which form the biggest resource base for Allied Timbers Zimbabwe. It has a total of 11 600 ha planted area of manageable softwood. It produces some of the best quality sawn timber on the market. All the products from Chimanimani are sold locally, regionally and internationally.

FACTORIES

Allied Timbers Zimbabwe has several factories, one of which is located at Nyakamete Industrial area in Mutare. Mutare Nyakamete plant has two operational units namely, door plant and lamination units. The door plant produces batten, double clad, FL and B doors. Laminated timber plant produces laminated beams, brandering and shelving for both building and furniture industries. Allied Timbers Zimbabwe is committed to producing quality products for the export market.

POLES

The company has two estates where poles are extracted for both local and export markets. These are Mtao in the Midlands Province and Gungunyana in Chipinge, Manicaland. Mtao has a treatment plant where quality creosote-treated poles of all sizes are treated.

HONEY PRODUCCTION

An apiary project at Mtao produces the dominantly eucalyptus honey which is sold in retail outlets.

 

MARKETING AND SALES

Marketing and Sales is the company’s nerve centre where our quality products including value added products and rough sawn timber are sold through our five Retail outlets available in major towns, namely Bulawayo, Harare, (Msasa and Chitungwiza), Masvingo and Gweru. Orders filter through marketing and walk-ins at our retail branches nationwide. Huge orders both for local and international markets are mainly handled by our marketing function. Our Retail Branches are manned by very competent and skilled personnel whose priority is to meet customer needs and offer the best service. Their main activities are to merchandise and sell a wide range of timber products which is  produced from operations.

 

TRUSS PLANTS

Allied Timbers Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd has three manufacturing truss-plants in operation, one in Harare’s Msasa branch, another in Gweru’s Industrial area and the third located in Bulawayo. Roof truss are manufactured using quality top grade sawn timber. The trusses are manufactured under the Mi-Tek license. There is a Mi-Tek Certified Estimator at each truss plant for professional management.

 

ALLIED TIMBERS SALIGNA

Allied Timbers Zimbabwe has a 51% stake in Allied Timbers Saligna which forms an integral part of the Allied Timbers Zimbabwe group.

Allied Timbers Saligna is situated in Penhalonga, 24 km from Mutare and produces Saligna hardwood, Poles and also has capacity to produce charcoal mainly for export to Botswana and South Africa.

Allied Timbers Saligna boasts of the largest Saligna resources in Zimbabwe, and hence offers unrivalled quality timber products.

Plans are underway to grow the business through forestry expansion programs to consolidate the company’s position in the regional market. In line with sustainable forestry management the company is looking at certification (Forestry Stewardship Council) to give them leverage to penetrate the international markets using the certification.
